Being a student, Dmitri Frolov took a great interest in drawing of pointless pictures. The first exhibition of his pictures (in collaboration with an institute comrade) took place in Nowember, 1987, in "Lenin's room" of institute's hostel (Novoizmaylovsky prospect, Leningrad). That exhibition's duration was ten days and it was beginning of series of that exhibitions.
Since that time, every demonstration of his films (he began to shoot films in 1979) was together with exhibition of his pictures. Spectrism is the appelation being formulated by an artist Dmitri Frolov conformably to his own works. As it is generally known, this world is permeated by a light. All cteatures are bathed by light's rays corroborating its significance as a main physical manifestation of our life. A thing being named a light is nothing other than a level of vibrations influencing on optical nerves.
The white light, under definite physical conditions, can be decomposed into seven various colours. It is spectrum. This one is most intricate structure of colours. Although we can see the white colour everywhere it can't be identified by us as mixture of colours. But it exists around us exactly in this form. "Spectrism" shows us that and it forces us to understand anything, it interprets the abundance of colours around us which we don't see but we have to know about its existence at each centimetre of world space.
There are innumerable colours which we can't see as well as we can't hear innumerable sounds as well as we can't smell innumerable odours as well as we can't taste innumerable things as well as we can't feel innumerable substances.
A man is surrounded by pretersensual Universe which he can't get to know because his nerve - centres are not quite developed for it. We have to seek to know these colours. Our souls always crave for good as well as our nerve - centres try to feel mysterious colours in our such various world. And we must help them.
